Though filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has, shall we say, fallen out of favor over the past few years, his first couple of films remain pretty great. After the smashing success of The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan crafted was looked like to be an intense character drama, but was actually a superhero movie ahead of its time: Unbreakable. The pic was a sizeable success, but if it were to be released today in the midst of this onslaught of caped crusaders, I'm fairly certain it would be heralded as a masterful spin on the genre.

Since Unbreakable’s release, Shyamalan has often said that he has ideas for an Unbreakable sequel. The film has yet to be more than a prospective “thing that could’ve happened but didn’t,” and given the declining quality of Shyamalan’s output, the odds aren't great of Unbreakable 2 actually coming to fruition today.

But a saving grace may have arrived in the form of Patton Oswalt. The comedian/actor/writer has gained a reputation as one of the smartest and most imaginative “nerds” out there (watch his incredible Parks and Recreation improv for proof), and he recently offered up his idea for not only an Unbreakable sequel, but a full trilogy.

Essentially Oswalt says that the follow-up would pick up from a small reference made at the end of Unbreakable that hinted at the existence of other “Unbreakables” in the world. The sequel, aptly named Unbreakables, would find Bruce Willis’ David Dunn assembling a team of other similarly superpowered individuals, all the while Samuel L. Jackson sits in an insane asylum, forming his master plan.

I’ll save the rest of his reveals for the full video, but it’s already gotten the attention of Shyamalan, who said on Twitter that he "may need to fly out Patton Oswalt to help me crack the Unbreakable sequel."
