We learned last summer that Kate Beckinsale would pick up the pistols and bodysuits for another turn as the death dealing vampire huntress, Selene for a new Underworld movie and today, Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment have unveiled the film’s official title. The fifth installment in the Underworld saga will be called Underworld: Blood Wars, a fitting if somewhat generic title for a franchise of films based around the interminable war between Vampires and Lycans, aka Werewolves.
Underworld: Blood Wars, which filmed last year in Prague, also sees the return of Charles Dance as the vampire elder Thomas, as does Theo James as Thomas’ son and Selene’s ally, David. New castmembers include Outlander’s Tobias Menzies as “a formidable new Lycan leader,” and Sherlock’s Lara Pulver as “a fiercely ambitious vampire,” along with James Faulkner (another Game of Thrones actor), Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Bradley James (A&E’s Damiens eries), Daisy Head (Fallen), and newcomer actress Clementine Nicholson.

Anna Foerster, who previously helmed episodes of Outlander (and was a long-time collaborator with Roland Emmerich, serving as direcorof photography on films like White House Down and The Day After Tomorrow, directs Underworld: Blood Wars from a screenplay by The Last Witch Hunter scribe Cory Goodman. Plot details and the official release date for Underworld 5 are still being kept under wraps, but the story will reportedly a new, younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are still locked in the seemingly endless war between supernatural races.
Meanwhile, Les Wiseman, who directed the first two films, is also currently developing an Underworld TV series, though details on that project are still scarce. What we can be certain of is that the Vampire/Lycan war, a Blood War, if you will, wages ever on.
