Universal has bought a spec script by stand-up comedian John Phillips called Dirty Grandpa. Barry Josephson (Enchanted, TV’s Bones) will produce the flick. At this point, no director or cast is attached. No word on how quickly Universal wants to move on the project. Variety reports that the story “centers on a recently widowed man who gets to know his grandson better while the grandson is about to marry the wrong girl.” The script is Phillips’ first sale. He’s a New-York based performer who studied under the Upright Citizens Brigade.
