More than twenty-five years after their comedy Real Genius hit theaters, co-stars Val Kilmer and Jon Gries are once again pairing in the independent redemption-story Deep in the Heart.  Directed by Christopher Cain (Young Guns), Deep in the Heart tells the true story of Richard Wallrath (Gries), an alcoholic who bounces back from rock bottom to build a multi-million dollar business and become engaged in numerous philanthropic efforts.  Per THR, Kilmer's turn in the film is as "The Bearded Man" (see beard above), a "Christ-like figure" who "resides in Wallrath's mind to help him on his path to recovery."

Deep in the Heart is being co-produced by Scott Duthie who has now paired with Cain on three consecutive projects.  Though it currently lacks a distributor, the project is currently filming in Texas.  As for Kilmer and Gries, the former can be seen on March 11 in the mob film Kill the Irishman.  The latter is no stranger to independent film having made a memorable turn as "Uncle Rico" in 2004's cult-hit Napoleon Dynamite.
