More casting news to report today, this time from two similarly titled features.  You might also want to check out the casting updates on Colin Farrell, Willem Dafoe and Rooney Mara. Check out the Admission/Admissions casting below:

  • Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia will team up for the indie romantic comedy, Admissions, in which they strike up a spontaneous romance when they meet while taking their children to tour the same college.
  • Michael Sheen will join Tina Fey and Paul Rudd in the similarly titled/themed Admission, featuring Fey as an unmarried college admissions counselor who falls for an old flame (Rudd).

Hit the jump for more details (and clarification) on each project.

First up is Admissions, directed by Adam Rogers (The Response) from a script by Glenn German. Deadline reports that the indie centers on Edith (Farmiga), a free-spirit who accompanies her ambitious daughter Audrey on a walking tour of a small college.  On the tour, Edith meets George (Garcia), a reserved heart surgeon who is taking his son Conrad to the same school.  Finding more in common with each other than they do with their children, the two play hooky and kindle an unexpected romance.  Director Rogers' short film, The Response, was short-listed for an Oscar in the "Best Live Action Short Film" category.

From THR comes news of Sheen reuniting with Fey in Admission. Much like his stint as Wesley Snipes on 30 Rock, Sheen will play the uptight British boyfriend to Fey's character.  Rudd, who recently replaced Owen Wilson in the film, is sure to provide a romantic competitor of sorts; I'm curious to see how their eccentricities play off of each other. Directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy) from a script by Karen Croner (One True Thing), Admission is set to start filming in New York next month.
