‘War Dogs’ Trailer: Jonah Hill and Miles Teller Are Arms Dealers in Action Comedy

     March 24, 2016

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Hangover filmmaker Todd Phillips’ comedic drama War Dogs. Previously titled Arms and the Dudes, the film is based on a true story and stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller as two ambitious young men who become weapons traders for the U.S. government, landing multimillion-dollar arms contracts and living the high life before everything comes crashing down.

If you wanted a movie that feels like a spiritual successor to Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain or a companion film to Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall StreetWar Dogs might just be it. This trailer teases a story that’s sure to be frustrating to folks who play things by the book, exciting to those whose ambitions outpace their means, and unbelievable to just about everyone else. The craziest part of the whole thing is that, unlike The Hangover series, this story is rooted in reality.

Watch the first War Dogs trailer below, along with the film’s official poster (which clearly takes inspiration from the classic Scarface movie poster). The film also stars Bradley Cooper and Ana de Armas and opens in theaters on August 19th.

Here’s the official synopsis for War Dogs:

Based on a true story, “War Dogs” follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the first Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts.  Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life.  But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.
