The Collider Weekly TV Guide is a rundown of notable episodes, premieres, returns, finales, and opportunities to catch up on great shows (or cast an eye to the occasional mess — and there are a few). Here are the notes for the week beginning Monday, October 5th:

Monday, 10/5

Gotham, “Rise of the Villains: The Last Laugh” (Fox, 8 p.m.) - The hunt for a mysterious nemesis from the past leads Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) into a confrontation with Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) in the latest episode of this risible comic-book action-melodrama.

Blindspot, “Eight Slim Grins” (NBC, 10 p.m.) - A Navy SEALs tattoo links Jane (Jaimie Alexander) to an enigmatic jewel thief, around the same time she receives a visit from a man from her cloudy past. Elsewhere, Jane's place on the team is called into question, causing a great deal of tension among the other members.

The Flash Season 2 Premiere, “The Man Who Saved Central City” (The CW, 8 p.m.) - Barry (Grant Gustin) is on his own to protect Central City as Season 2 starts off, but his plans are complicated by the appearance of Atom Smasher, which requires more hands on deck, including Iris (Candice Patton). Elsewhere, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) work on the future of the Meta Task Force.

iZombie Season 2 Premiere, “Grumpy Old Liv” (The CW, 9 p.m.) - Season 2 begins with (surprise!) Liv (Rose McIver) chowing down on the brains of a curmudgeon, while Ravi (Rahul Kohli) investigates a possible side effect to the cure.

Wednesday, 10/7

Empire, “Fires of Heaven” (Fox, 9 p.m.) - Primetime's best, most outlandish melodrama continues on in it's bombastic second season as Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) begin putting all their work into their Latina girl-group, just as Lucious (Terrence Howard) gets out of jail and begins to plan his revenge on the family members who betrayed him.

Arrow Season 4 Premiere, “Green Arrow” (The CW, 8 p.m.) - Season 4 in the midst of chaos in Star City, as the villainous Damien Darhk (Neil McDonough) sends out a cadre of assassins into the streets, causing Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) to have to cut their vacation short, even if Diggle (David Ramsey) wants nothing to do with his former charge.

American Horror Story: Hotel Series Premiere, “Checking In” (FX, 10 p.m.) - Welcome to the Hotel Cortez, which becomes of premiere interest to Detective John Lowe (Wes Bentley) when he finds connections between the hotel and numerous brutal murders in Los Angeles.

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Premiere, “Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take” (The CW, 8 p.m.) - As Season 7 starts up, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) must figure out his new, er, situation with Elena (Nina Dobrev). Elsewhere, Lily (Annie Wersching) and her Heretics are causing all kinds of hell in Mystic Falls, which Stefan (Paul Wesley) attempts to alleviate. Matt (Zach Roerig) and Caroline (Candice Accola) end up helping out Stefan in his quest, as Lily's closer relationships begin to fray.

The Originals Season 3 Premiere, “For the Next Millennium” (The CW, 9 p.m.) - An old vampire friend of Klaus's (Joseph Morgan) arrives in New Orleans, which makes him nervous over newfound interest with the Mikaelson's remaining sire lines. Elsewhere, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) looks to capitalize on his control of the French Quarter by finding new ways to recruit vampires into his legion.

Saturday, 10/10

Blunt Talk, “Who Kisses So Early in the Morning?” (Starz, 9 p.m.) - Walter (Patrick Stewart) finds himself tossed back into the limelight for not-so-great reasons due to comments from Celia (Dolly Wells) in the latest episode of this deliriously perverse comedy series.

Sunday, 10/11

Homeland, “The Tradition of Hospitality” (Showtime, 9 p.m.) – Homeland's most thrilling season to date continues on as Carrie (Claire Danes) and Düring (Sebastian Koch) head to Lebanon to visit a refugee camp with a tenuous blessing from Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) finds himself in a PR quagmire following the leak of information about America's spying pact with Germany.

The Walking Dead Season 6 Premiere, “First Time Again” (AMC, 9 p.m.) - In the exhilarating first episode of The Walking Dead Season 6, Rick's group and the people of Alexandria set off on an ambitious plan to drive out a neighboring horde of zombies. Things do not go as planned. Surprise!
