The Collider Weekly TV Guide is a rundown of notable episodes, premieres, returns, finales, and opportunities to catch up on great shows (or cast an eye to the occasional mess — and there are a few). Here are the notes for the week beginning Monday, August 3rd:
Monday, 8/3
UnReal Season 1 Finale (Lifetime, 10 p.m.) — Lifetime’s unexpectedly fun and dark series concludes with no one to root for, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Adam (Freddie Stroma) makes his choices, Rachel (Shiri Appleby) feels betrayed, and Britney is back! Lifetime is also running a marathon of the series leading up to the finale, if you’ve missed out.
Significant Mother Series Premiere (CW, 9:30 p.m.) — A “comedy” about a Portland man (Josh Zuckerman) who discovers his best friend is dating his mother (Krista Allen). If you put it on mute and just watch Nathaniel Buzolic being shirtless, it may not make you cry at the state of this total trainwreck.
Wednesday, 8/5
Difficult People Series Premiere (Hulu) — Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner star in this Amy Poehler-produced series as best friends living in New York. Guests stars include Amy Seders, Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, and more.
Mr. Robinson Series Premiere (NBC, 9 p.m.) — This unfortunately laugh-track-driven, three-camera comedy stars Craig Robinson as a struggling musician who takes a job as a high school music teacher. (So like Wendell Pierce’s Antoine Baptiste from Treme, but not as good). The short, six-episode series will run back-to-back for three weeks.
A Wicked Offer Season Premiere (CW, 9 p.m.) — Couples are paid cash to play mean tricks on their loved ones. Because the world definitely needs more of this.
Mr. Robot, “eps1.6_v1ew-s0urce.flv” (USA, 10:01 p.m.) — After the emotional finale of last week’s difficult episode, Elliot (Rami Malek) goes missing, and Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) tries to bring fsociety back together. Meanwhile, Angela (Portia Doubleday) executes her plans to make E Corps pay for its past sins.
Deutschland 83 Series Finale, “Able Archer” (Sundance, 11 p.m.) — The West continues to play their war games despite Martin’s (Jonas Nay) warnings. As Martin tries to stop the East from its devastating plans while remaining on the run, Yvonne (Lisa Tomaschewsky) must content with Annett (Sonja Gerhardt) and the secret police, Alex (Ludwig Trepte) confronts his demons, and Ingrid (Carina N. Wiese) attempts to save Thomas (Vladimir Burlakov). Mein Gott!
Thursday, 8/6
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Finale (Comedy Central, 11 p.m.) — Jon Stewart’s last night as host. What an incredible run (I remember when it was a tin-pot production around the time Stewart took over for Kilborn, but even those days were gloroius). The Daily Show will return September 28th with Trevor Noah at the helm.
Saturday, 8/8
Hannibal, “And the Woman Clothed in Sun” (NBC, 10 p.m.) — When carvings symbolizing the Great Red Dragon are recovered from crime scenes, Will (Hugh Dancy) begins to see the depths of Francis Dolarhyde’s (Richard Armitage) disturbed psyche. Both reach out for advice from Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen).
Sunday, 8/9
True Detective Season Finale, “Omega Rooms” (HBO, 9 p.m.) — Not much is known about what True Detective’s finale may entail, but it appears the murder investigation will be wrapped up at the very least.
Ray Donovan, “Handshake Deal” (Showtime, 9 p.m.) — Ray (Liev Schreiber) embarks on a new mission that drives a wedge between Finney (Ian McShane) and Paige (Katie Homles).
Humans, “Episode 6” (AMC, 9 p.m.) — AMC’s engrossing series, recently renewed for Season 2, continues with a desperate Karen (Ruth Bradley) hunting down Niska (Emily Berrington), while the renegade synths stay with the Hawkins’. Hobb (Danny Webb) is not far behind, but is he friend of foe?
The Strain, “Quick and Painless” (FX, 10 p.m.) — Is this the episode when Eph (Corey Stoll) loses the wig?? Saints preserve us! Nora (Mia Maestro) then becomes a reluctant parent to Zach (Max Charles), while teaming up with Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) to get Fet (Kevin Durand) out of jail.
