One of the reasons What If…? is such a great comic book and why people should be excited for the upcoming Disney+ animated series is that literally anything can happen. Since these stories take place in an alternate universe, the storytellers don’t have to worry about continuity, fitting into the current Marvel cinematic universe, or even having characters survive. Every episode takes place in its own universe, which allows for complete creative freedom.

With the first season of What If…? getting ready to start streaming weekly on August 11th, I recently spoke to director Bryan Andrews and head writer AC Bradley. While we spoke about the making of the series, Easter eggs fans should look out for, and how long it would take to get a third season on the air if Disney decided to make it (Season 2 is already confirmed), I think the most important thing we discussed was how can fans get a Marvel/Star Wars What If…? crossover episode.

Like I said previously, the thing about What If…? is anything is possible, because it doesn’t have to fit into the MCU. The sky is the limit. So imagine an episode where some Marvel character gets dropped off on Tatooine and end up teaming up with Luke Skywalker (voiced by Mark Hamill). Or Luke Skywalker somehow arrives on Earth where he and Captain America have to track down literally anything. Of course, this is just the beginning of what Disney could do with What If…?, since they own so many franchises that they could combine almost anything in the MCU for a special episode.

Check out what Bryan Andrews and AC Bradley had to say in the player above and as usual, I’ve listed everything we talked about below.

Bryan Andrews and AC Bradley:

  • Did they ever pitch Marvel on doing a What If…? episode where Marvel meets another Disney property like Tron?
  • What would it take to do a Star Wars meets Marvel What If…?
  • How they should pitch consumer products on all the toy sales that would come from Luke Skywalker being in an episode.
  • How Baby Yoda and Baby Groot could have a playdate.
  • How long would it take to get a Season 3 on the air if Disney decides to make it?
  • Will any of the episodes in Season 1 continue in Season 2 or are the episodes all self-contained?
  • Does Season 1 end on a finale?
  • What might surprise fans to learn about the making of the series?
  • How the episodes are jam packed with Easter eggs.
