GKIDS, the award winning-animation studio, has announced the American voice cast for the highly anticipated Studio Ghibli film When Marnie Was There. From from director Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty), When Marnie Was There is based on the British children’s novel by Joan G. Robinson about a young girl, Anna, who befriends a mysterious girl, Marnie, when she relocates from the city to a small town. But as Anna grows closer to her new friend, she realizes Marnie is hiding some strange truths.
Hailee Steinfeld has joined the voice cast as Anna with Kiernan Shipka filling the role of Marnie. John C. Reilly, Vanessa Williams, Geena Davis, Kathy Bates, Ellen Burstyn and Catherine O’Hara round out the voice cast. When Marnie Was There opens in NY and LA theaters May 22nd, before expanding nationally in the following weeks.

Sent from her foster home in the city one summer to a sleepy town by the sea in Hokkaido, Anna dreams her days away among the marshes.
