Will Ferrell is reportedly attached to star in Flamingo Thief, based on the Susan Trott novel and adapted by Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree). LeSieur's script had appeared on 2011's Black List. The Red Hour Films production will star Farrell as Tim Forester, a man who becomes obsessed with stealing flamingos after his wife leaves him. The project, which sounds like it’s right in Ferrell’s zany wheelhouse, has no director as of yet but Red Hour is currently looking. Ferrell next stars in the all-Spanish language comedy, Casa de mi Padre which opens on March 16th. Hit the jump for the synopsis of Flamingo Thief.

that Ferrell would be starring in the Red Hour Films adaptation of Flamingo Thief. Here’s the synopsis for the Susan Trott novel (via Amazon):

Everyone handles grief differently but none so differently as Tim Forester, multimillionaire Juice King, who lost his son a year ago. It starts with him quietly pocketing a china flamingo belonging to his three year old niece, Joy, and by his tenth flamingo has escalated to felony grand theft. He is shot by one person and shot at by another. He is losing his business and his wife but he is feeling better. Flamingo thieving makes his heart beat. He comes alive. In a way he is having a wonderful time. But how will it end? Quite possibly in prison. Flamingo Thief is a funny, bittersweet story of love, loss, family, fruit and flamingos. The reader will never forget Tim Forester, his disastrous way of dealing with grief, and a heart that is bursting with love.
