Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig's Lifetime movie, A Deadly Adoption, started out as a possible April Fools' joke, then turned out to be real, then looked like it was going to be scrapped, and is now confirmed thanks to a release date and promotional poster. An admitted fan of Lifetime's fare, Ferrell produced the TV movie through his Gary Sanchez Productions along with Adam McKay. Having already filmed A Deadly Adoption with Wiig, the team wanted to keep the production a secret until its unexpected debut. Much like the movie's tagline, "The Birth of a Plan Gone Wrong," that secretive plan didn't exactly work out. As THR reports, the movie is but a few weeks away.

The overly dramatic thriller (this is a wink at the network's usual TV movies after all) stars Ferrell and Wiig as a successful couple who are caring for a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) with the aim of adopting her child. Things don't go as planned. I can only imagine just how ridiculous and over-the-top this one's going to be, but I'm sure we'll all be pleasantly surprised. Ferrell does have experience performing in telenovelas, after all.

Scripted by Andrew Steele (Spoils of Babylon) and directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, the two-hour A Deadly Adoption will debut on Lifetime on June 20. In case you still don't quite believe the news, here's a look at a promotional poster for the TV movie, along with the release date.
