Will Ferrell's last two attempts at sports comedy—Semi-Pro and Blades of Glory—have been disappointing, but he's giving games another shot with Match Maker.  According to THR, Ferrell will star in the tennis comedy, which is based on the ESPN Magazine article "The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, The Mafia and The Battle of the Sexes".  The true story "told of the infamous rivalry between Riggs, a tennis champ past his prime who came out of retirement to challenge women’s tennis player Billie Jean King in a 1973 game that became known as The Battle of the Sexes. Over 50 million Americans tuned in to watch King beat Riggs and win the $100,000 prize."  It's possible Riggs threw the match to pay off some gambling debts to the mob.

Yep. This definitely sounds like a Will Ferrell movie.  I'm curious to see what actress they'll get for King, but I don't expect we'll hear about that casting until Steve Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) finishes writing the screenplay.  Ferrell will next star in Get Hard opposite Kevin Hart.  Production on that film is set to begin this spring for a March 27, 2015 release.
