Fox has released a new promo for the return of The X-Files, and it’s quite striking. Instead of offering up footage in the form of a traditional teaser trailer, this one opts to go with animated graphics combined with dialogue from the new episodes. David Duchovny’s Mulder asks the intriguing question of “Are we truly alone, or are we being lied to?”, as the tone of Gillian Anderson’s Scully makes clear that the dynamic duo must tread lightly as they reopen the X-Files. In his review of the premiere episode, Evan praised the show's return as satisfying for fans, though cautioned that it may be tricky to jump in having not seen any of the original series. Luckily that can be rectified by purchasing the complete series Blu-ray set.

The beloved show returns to Fox this January with series creator/executive producer Chris Carter at the helm, steering six new episodes that will mix standalone episodes with the deep mythology of the series. I’m curious to see how Fox moves forward if the X-Files return is a big success. Will the show come back for good? Will Carter and Co. opt for a couple more contained, limited runs? Or is this it, six and done?

For now, check out the new promo below. The limited series also stars Mitch Pileggi, Joel McHale, Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Annabeth Gish, Annet Mahendru, Rhys Darby, Kumail Nanjiani, and William B. Davis. The return of The X-Files begins on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 10pm ET following the NFC Championship Game, continuing on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 9pm ET.

Here’s a synopsis for the X-Files revival:

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES is a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI ASST. DIR. WALTER SKINNER, Mulder and Scully’s boss, who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
