Fans of female-centric fantasy series just got a bit of good news, which is an especial relief considering all the, er, happenings of last season of Game of Thrones. NBC confirmed today that they are moving forward with their plans to reboot Xena: Warrior Princess, Robert Talpert and John Schulian's surprisingly entertaining action-drama series that starred Lucy Lawless as the titular ass-kicker, armed with a deadly circular boomerang weapon that I probably shouldn't know is called a Chakram. NBC is now looking for a writer to pen the pilot for the reboot, and have also expressed interest in bringing Lawless back for the reboot in some capacity. No word yet if Renee O'Conner, who played Xena's comrade and pupil Gabrielle, will be returning or has even been talked to about the new series.
Lawless, of course, has been quite busy as of late. She did indeed play Diane, the love interest and eventual wife of Nick Offerman's Ron Swanson, in the final seasons of Parks & Recreation, and had roles in HBO's underrated comedy series Flight of the Conchords and Starz's Spartacus series. More recently, she had a guest spot in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a recurring role in Salem, in which she plays the tremendously evil Countess Marburg. But most importantly, she's set to headline Starz's upcoming Ash vs. The Evil Dead alongside Bruce Campbell, who will be reprising his role as his still-totally-awesome titular character, complete with chainsaw. Her reemergence in these popular arenas bodes well for her inclusion in the Xena: Warrior Princess reboot, which means we're just waiting on the hiring of a writer from NBC before we can be released from these Chains of Hephaestus. That's right, I went there!
