Amazon Studios has announced that a follow up to 2020’s comedic hit, Yearly Departed, will be coming back to grace our screens in December. The comedic round up of all things 2021 will be available in more than 240 countries and territories around the world. This ode (or rather eulogy) to 2021 will feature an all-female lineup of comedians and guests that have not yet been announced. This comedic gathering will be hosted by Emmy Award-nominee, Yvonne Orji (Insecure) and will bid adieu to all things 2021 such as Hot Vaxx Summer, Hermit Life, Ignoring the Climate Crisis, and everyone’s favorite video meeting platform, Zoom.

Executive Producer, Rachel Brosnahan, spoke on her excitement on the project by stating,

“I, and team Scrap Paper Pictures, couldn’t be more excited to rejoin this team of powerhouse producers, writers, and our talented director, Linda Mendoza, to bring another Yearly Departed into the world. I can think of no better group of women to bid adieu and f*#& you to 2021”.

Of her experience and sentiment for hosting and working on this project, Orji said,

“In my career, I’ve been fortunate to work on a show that was created by Blacks, for Black characters, and now, I get to host a special that was written by all women, featuring a lineup of incredibly funny female comedians, directed by a talented female director, and produced by a group of amazing female producers. I guess lightning CAN strike twice!”

Yearly Departed comes to us from Amazon Studios, Done+Dusted, and Scrap Paper Pictures. It is being executive produced by Brosnahan, Paige Simpson, David Jammy, Katy Mullan, Samantha Ressler, Nathalie Love, and Bess Kalb, who was also the head writer.

The 2020 Yearly Departed was directed by Emmy Award-winner, Linda Mendoza (Ugly Betty) who will return to direct this year’s event. The hilarious 2020 edition was hosted by Phoebe Robinson (What Men Want) and had an absolutely stacked, hilarious, all female cast consisting of Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Natasha Leggero (The Do Over), Sarah Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program), and Ziwe Fumudoh (Ziwe), just to name a few. Hopefully some of these ladies will return for the 2021 roast, but no matter what, we know we’ll be getting the best and brightest of the comedy game. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on this year’s Yearly Departed.
