Back in September, James Franco hit the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival rocking a shaved head with a tattoo of A Place in the Sun’s Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor on the back of it.  It wasn’t some oddball stunt like what Shia LaBeouf pulled at Berlin, but rather, while attending the festival to debut The Sound and the Fury and also to accept his Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker award, he decided to get a little work done.  Franco took the opportunity to shoot some shots for his next directorial endeavor, a film called Zeroville.

But even though Franco started knocking off shots last month, his co-cast is first being announced now.  It’s being reported that Seth Rogen, Jacki Weaver, Megan Fox, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Dave Franco, Craig Robinson, Joey King and Horatio Sanz will all join him in the film.  Hit the jump for more on Zeroville.

The movie is an adaptation of the Steve Erickson novel, which, according to the Amazon description, focuses on an architecture student (Franco) with a serious thing for the film industry.  He arrives on Hollywood Boulevard in 1969 and is falsely identified as a member of the Manson family.  He ultimately scores a job as a film editor and winds up uncovering the frames of a secret film hidden within the reels of every movie ever made.

According to Screen Daily, along the way, Franco’s character will cross paths with a femme-fatale named Soledad (Fox), an “eccentric, cigar-chomping, surf-hippy” who offers him some guidance named Viking Man (Rogen), a film editor who serves as a mentor (Weaver) and a sinister financier (McBride).

Franco will also produce the film alongside Vince Jolivette for Rabbit Bandini Productions as well as Caroline Aragon and Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures.  Union Patriot Capital Management is financing while Embankment Films will handle sales.

The film is currently in production and it looks as though Franco’s been sharing some images from the set on Instagram:
