For the past few years, Disney Animation has been on a roll releasing films like Wreck-it-Ralph, Big Hero 6, Frozen, and Tangled. Their newest film, Zootopia, continues their great streak. If you haven’t seen any of the trailers, Zootopia is about a detective named Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) who has to partner up with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox named Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) to solve her first big case. Helmed by Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph), the film is loaded with plenty of jokes for adults and Easter eggs, and it’s also a fantastic family film. I absolutely recommend checking it out this weekend. Zootopia also features the voices of Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Bonnie Hunt, Don LakeAlan Tudyk, Tommy “Tiny” Lister, Raymond Persi, Katie Lowes, Jesse Corti, and John DiMaggio. For more on the film, read Matt’s glowing review.

At the recent Disneyworld press junket for the film, I got to talk with Howard and Moore about how the film is a mystery mixed with a buddy cop comedy, the production design and technology that went into making the film, the hidden Easter eggs, how they’re thinking about making a sequel to Wreck-it-Ralph, and a lot more. Check out what they had to say below.

Byron Howard and Rich Moore:

  • What do I need to do to get a sequel to Wreck-it-Ralph? Says they are thinking about it.
  • How it’s a buddy cop animated movie and a mystery.
  • All the Easter eggs hidden in the film.
  • They talk about production design and the technology that went into making the film. They reveal they couldn’t have made Zootopia even two years ago.
